Canadian lawyer William Rosenberg is elected chair of ABA Business Law Section
William Rosenberg, a senior partner in the Montreal office of Stikeman Elliott LLP, has been elected to a one-year term as chair of the American Bar Association Business Law Section. Rosenberg, the first non-U.S. lawyer to be named as an officer of the Business Law Section, will serve until September 2016.
"I am grateful for the privilege to serve as chair of one of the largest specialty group within the ABA," Rosenberg said. "As the first non-U.S. lawyer to hold this position, I look forward to using my unique perspective to help expand and strengthen the section's global network of business lawyers, in addition to reinforcing our position as the premier community for business law professionals by constantly improving our valuable member benefits and services."
Rosenberg practices corporate and commercial law and is recognized by many industry publications as a leading practitioner in the areas of mergers and acquisitions and private equity. He has significant experience acting as lead counsel on numerous merger and acquisition transactions, representing clients from across Canada, the United States and Europe. He has been a lawyer at Stikeman Elliott LLP since 1989.
He is a past editor-in-chief of The Business Lawyer, a Business Law Section publication and the premier peer-reviewed business law journal in the United States. He has been a member of the ABA since 1992 and is active within the section's Mergers & Acquisitions Committee, including as a member of the editorial group of the ABA's Model Stock Purchase Agreement with Commentary (Second Edition).
Rosenberg, who received his B.A., B.C.L. and LL.B from McGill University, is a member of the Quebec Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Fellows of the ABA. He is recognized by many legal industry publications, including: The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (2009-15); The Best Lawyers in Canada in the fields of mergers and acquisitions and corporate law (2008-15); Lexpert/American Lawyer Media publication, A Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada (2009-15); and The International Who's Who of Merger & Acquisition Lawyers (2010-15).
