Mobile shower trailer scheduled to visit Mt. Clemens this weekend

The WAVE Project (Welcoming All Valuing Everyone) is launching a mobile shower trailer to serve individuals experiencing homelessness in the Detroit area.

WAVE Project’s inaugural shower event is being held on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at The Well MTC, 176 Gratiot Ave., in Mt. Clemens.

The newly purchased mobile shower trailer is equipped with three private stalls, including a toilet, sin, and stand-up shower, organizers say.

The shower service will provide 30-plus showers during the four-hour event.

In partnership with The Well MTC and Blessing Bags Brigade of Michigan, those in need will receive a meal, haircut services, and hygiene bags in addition to a hot shower.

Family loses appeal in lawsuit over teen’s killing

TRENTON (AP) — The family of a Detroit-area teenager who was fatally shot by police has failed to persuade a federal court to reinstate a lawsuit against officers.

Kyle Baker was days away from graduating from Trenton High School in 2015 when he was shot at his home.

He was experiencing aftereffects from LSD and had struck an officer with a lawnmower blade.

An appeals court last week said it has sympathy for Baker’s family in the “heart-rending” case. But the court said the officers’ entry into the home and
use of force didn’t violate any constitutional rights.

Trenton officers believed Baker was armed and threatening his mother, although they later learned she wasn’t in the house.

Ice cream flavor backs criminal justice reform

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ice cream maker Ben & Jerry’s has unveiled a new flavor to highlight what it calls structural racism and a broken criminal justice system.

Justice ReMix’d is described as cinnamon and chocolate ice cream with gobs of cinnamon bun dough and spicy fudge brownies.

A portion of proceeds supports Advancement Project National Office, a multi-racial civil rights group and its fight for justice for all, despite race or wealth.

The company says it has been working with Advanced Project in St. Louis to close The Workhouse jail and in Miami to slow what the two groups call “the school-to-prison pipeline.”

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the co-founders of the Vermont-based ice cream maker, made the announcement Tuesday in Washington.

Black bear found sleeping on restroom sinks in Montana lodge

BIG SKY, Mont. (AP) — A black bear was found in a Montana lodge by visitors who were surprised to find him sleeping in a restroom.

KTMF-TV reports the bear was asleep on the countertop between two sinks Saturday at Bucks T-4 Lodge in Big Sky.

Officials say the bear entered the restroom through a window and then could not get back out using the window or the restroom door, which was
closed.

Officials say no one was injured and the bear was safely transported from the property.
