• OCBA: Ribbon Cutting and Membership Mixer

The Oakland County Bar Association Board of Directors and Membership Committee are hosting a special evening celebrating the grand opening of the newly-renovated OCBA office. The event will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 11 at the OCBA Office, 1760 S. Telegraph Rd., Ste. 100, in Bloomfield Hills. Join colleagues for the official ribbon cutting conducted by the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce (BBCC) at 4:30 p.m. The office will be open for tours and the quarterly Membership Mixer. • OCBA: Paternity in Juvenile and Family Cases
February 13

The Oakland County Bar Association is hosting a seminar titled, “Paternity in Juvenile and Family Cases” from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, February 13 at the OCBA offices, 1760 S. Telegraph Rd., Suite 100 in Bloomfield Hills. The Revocation of Paternity Act (ROPA) isn’t just for family law cases. ROPA is often used in juvenile cases, too. Experts will discuss its practical application in these cases, including real-life case studies. Lisa Harris, Esq. and Kate Weaver, Esq., Oakland County Circuit Court, will be presenting. • OCBA: Winning Through Mediation — Want the Secret Sauce?
February 13

A stellar panel has been put together by the Oakland County Bar Association for a seminar titled “Winning Through Mediation: Want the Secret Sauce?” The seminar will be held from 5:45-7:45 p.m. Thursday, February 13 at the OCBA Offices, 1760 S. Telegraph Rd., Suite 100 in Bloomfield Hills. The panelists will discuss strategies for preparation and representation of litigants during a mediation, how to ensure that a settlement is more likely, and how to get the best settlement for the client. Networking begins at 5:45 p.m. with the program to follow at 6 p.m. Presenters include William C. Blasses Esq., Kerr, Russell and Weber, PLC; Joseph K. Grekin, Esq.; Schafer & Weiner, PLLC; Hon. Steven W. Rhodes, Retired Chief Judge, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan/JAMS; and Daniel J. Weiner, Esq., Moderator, Schafer & Weiner, PLLC. • State Bar of Michigan Criminal Law Section: Mid-Winter Conference
February 15-16

The State Bar of Michigan Criminal Law Section is hosting a Mid-Winter Conference from 6 p.m. Saturday, February 15 through 5 p.m. Sunday, February 16 at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, 6800 Soaring Eagle Blvd. in Mt. Pleasant. On Saturday evening, kick off the conference with a keynote address and reception. On Sunday, the conference opens with a review of high-impact court cases, followed by several sessions on collateral consequences of criminal behavior, including immigration, licensing, and sex offender registry. The cost to attend is $25 for Criminal Law Section and Prisons and Corrections Section members, and $50 for non-members. Register by February 12 at https://www.michbar.org/.
