New lawyer admission  ceremony scheduled Tuesday via Zoom

Macomb County Circuit Court Chief Judge James Biernat Jr. is scheduled to preside over a Zoom new lawyer admission ceremony at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10 for law students who passed the July bar examination and have ties to Macomb County.

The Macomb County Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Section hosts group swearing-in ceremonies in the spring and fall each year, typically within two weeks of the Board of Examiners announcement of bar results.

Arraignments focus of CDAM/MCBA webinar

The Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan (CDAM),?along with the Macomb County Bar Association, will present the webinar “What Every Attorney Needs to Know About Arraignments” on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to noon via Zoom.
Guest speaker will be Macomb County Public Defender Thomas J. Tomko.

The webinar will include district court, circuit court and circuit court extraditions, and new district court discovery rules. 

A representative from  Community Corrections and a Macomb County judge will also provide their insights.

Cost for the webinar is $30 but is free to CDAM Partners, including MCBA.

‘Post-Election Analysis’ virtual panel sponsored by WSU’s Levin Center

The Levin Center and Wayne Law School will hold an online panel entitled, “Post-Election Analysis,” on Tuesday, November 10, from noon to 1:30 pm.

The panelists will analyze election results and their significance for the next Congress and the country’s future.

Panelists will include:  

• Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, former chair of the Wayne State University board of governors who represents portions of Wayne and Washtenaw counties in Congress. In Congress, she serves on the House Committee on Energy & Commerce as well as the Committee on Natural Resources. 

• Dave Trott served in Congress and is now chairman of ATA National Title Group. While in Congress, Trott served on the Financial Services Committee, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on the Judiciary.

Moderating the panel will be Jim Townsend, director of the Levin Center, and Ben Eikey, manager of state training and communications at the Levin Center.

The online event is free and open to the public and will utilize a Zoom webinar platform. Zoom details will be provided after registration.
