City Council approves several summer events

At its May 24 meeting, Jackson City Council voted to approve several summer events, such as Paws in the Park, the Rose Parade, and Jackson Pride Festival.

The City Council approved the installation of six new streetlights on Loeser Avenue, W. High Street and Randolph Street.

The Council approved a PILOT program for a 51-unit workforce housing development on Greenwood Avenue. This program reduces the tax liability on the developer and is an important step for developers to seek further funding for affordable housing complexes.

The MLK Corridor Improvement Authority could be expanding its boundaries. The City Council set a hearing in July for residents to comment on the proposal. Expanding the authority district will bring more tax revenue to be used for revitalization efforts on the City’s south side. The improvement authority captures existing property taxes and uses those funds to reinvest in the neighborhood.

The Council also approved the City’s budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
