Online master class to focus on 'Mastering the UCCJEA' October 27

The Professional Development Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association will present “Mastering the UCCJEA: Getting Child Custody Issues Right When a Parent Moves Out-of-State” as an online master class on Thursday, October 27, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Families are more mobile than ever, making interstate law issues a growing part of family law practice. This presentation will discuss the ins and outs of the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA), MCL 722.1101-722.1406, so that attorneys know what they must do to effectively navigate interstate (and international) child custody issues.  Because the UCCJEA is a highly technical Act, attendees should have a copy of the UCCJEA on hand during the presentation.

Speaking at the master class will be Amelia M. Maggio, Third Circuit Judicial Court, Family Division; Millicent F. Melhado, Lakeshore Legal Aid; and Cynthia J. Sherburn, Third Circuit Court, Family Division.

Cost for the program is $25 for OCBA Professional Development Committee members; $35 for OCBA members; $25 for OCBA?new lawyers, paralegals, students; and $45 for non-members.
