WMU-Cooley Law School board of directors elects Mitchell Zajac to vice chair post

Western Michigan University Cooley Law School Board of Directors has elected Mitchell Zajac of Howell, Michigan, to fill the role of the board’s vice-chair. Zajac, a 2017 graduate of WMU-Cooley, was elected to a four-year term to the board of directors in 2020.

Zajac is a shareholder for Detroit-based Butzel Attorneys and Counselors where he is a member of the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution practice group and is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He concentrates on automotive, intellectual property, regulatory and emissions compliance, and sports and entertainment law.

“The board is excited to have the talents of Mitchell serving with us,” said the Hon. Louise Alderson, board chairperson. “Mitchell’s active involvement with the board and law school and willingness to serve made him an easy choice to fill the role of vice-chair. Since first joining the board two years ago, he has demonstrated leadership skills that board members have come to respect and admire.”

Before joining Butzel, Zajac was an auditor, engineer and program manager at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. He has served as president of the board of directors for the Association for Child Development in Lansing since 2016 and has served as a committee member of the Western Michigan University Lee Honors College Advisory Council to the Dean since 2011. Zajac has also coached football at Howell High School since 2015.

Zajac earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and German  and a master’s in mechanical engineering from Western Michigan University.
