SFST court challenges discussed in webinar

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan will present the Traffic Safety Training Program webinar “Pushing Back on SFST Courtroom Challenges” on Wednesday, January 11, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

The defense bar continues to present sophisticated arguments to have standardized field sobriety test (SFST) evidence excluded in court. This webinar will cover some of the newer and widely used attacks and provide practice pointers on how to avoid lengthy court hearings.  The webinar will also discuss how to educate peers, the defense bar, judges, and other traffic safety professionals to try to put an end to these challenges.

Attendees will be provided with tools to help lessen the burden on practitioners.

Presenting at the webinar will be Colorado Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Jennifer Knudsen and Denver Police Department Sergeant Alan Ma.

There is no charge, but attendees must register in advance. To register, visit https://michiganprosecutor.org and click on “training.” After registering, attendees will receive a confirmation email from Zoom with instructions on how to join the webinar.

This webinar will be recorded. Those unable to attend at the scheduled time should go ahead and register as indicated. Everyone who is registered will receive a link to the recording of the webinar regardless of whether or not they attended.

Each webinar course is approved for 1 hour of credit under PAAM’s recommended CLE Best Practice. The training handouts, if any, will be made available the day of each webinar.

Anyone with questions or in need of any assistance registering should contact Amy Gronowski at gronowskia@michigan.gov or at 517-643-2114.
