Officer at Macomb Correctional Facility arraigned for bringing contraband into prison

On February 16, an officer of a Macomb Correctional Facility was arraigned in connection with bringing contraband into the prison.

It is alleged that on September 25, 2022, Miguel Priest, 23 years of age, arrived to work at the Macomb County Correctional Facility on 26 Mile Road in Lenox Twp.  During Priest’s search as he entered the facility, another officer noticed some of his packages of snacks looked abnormal. The packages were searched and contraband was found including cell phones and drugs.

“To have a corrections officer bring contraband into a prison is a huge security risk to life in the prison and public safety.  Officers are there to keep the peace, order, and control of the prison and contraband risks the safety and security of the facility,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Priest is charged with misconduct in office (5 year felony) and bringing contraband in a prison (5 year felony).  He was arraigned in Macomb County 42-2 District Court. Magistrate Joseph P. Cozzolino set bond at $50,000 personal bond, no alcohol or drugs.

The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 16 at 9 a.m. and the Preliminary Exam is scheduled for March 23 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge William H. Hackel III.
