CDAM Summer Conference 2023 taking place July 20-22

The Criminal Defense Attorney of Michigan will present the CDAM Summer Conference 2023 in person this year.  “Mitigation is Litigation” will take place Thursday through Saturday, July 20-22, at the Radisson Plaza Hotel, 100 W. Michigan Ave. in Kalamazoo.

The schedule includes:

Thursday, July 20

• “A Is for Attorney” with Karl P. Numinen. (There is a separate registration & fee for this program.)

• “Your Case Issues” with Rhonda B. Ives and Daniel W. Grow.  (This program is for CDAM members only and is free with a separate registration.)

• CDAM Board Meeting.  All CDAM members are welcome to attend. Those interested in running for CDAM’s Board of Directors must attend a board meeting.

• CDAM Lodge Party.  At Brick + Brine at Radisson Plaza Hotel. Open to all conference registrants with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

Friday, July 21

• Keynote: “Making Case Stories Come Alive” with David Mann

• “PowerPoint for Lawyers” with Kathy Swedlow, CDRC manager

• “Stakeholder Updates” presented by Arthur J. Weiss, CDAM president; Kristen Staley, MIDC executive director; Bradley Hall, MAACS administrator; and Kathy Swedlow, CDRC manager

• “Don’t be the Cowardly Lion.  Tips and Tales from the Bench and Beyond to Give You Courage in the Courtroom!” with Amy Ronayne Krause.

Saturday, July 22

• “Michigan Law Updates” with Adrianne N. Young

• “Instructing the Jury: Getting Your Case into the Instructions” with Matt Monahan and Emma Lawton

• “Michigan Sentencing Guidelines” with Anne Yantus

• “Instructing the Jury: Getting Your Case into the Instructions” with Matt Monahan and Emma Lawton

Cost for the conference is  $360 for attorneys paying their own way and $100 for law school students.

Some county/court funding units will pay for part, or all, of the cost of a registration. It is up to registrants to contact their local funding unit to determine what is applicable and what payment or reimbursement method will be used.
