The 43rd Annual Dinner of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, took place Wednesday, June 7, at the Atheneum Hotel in Detroit. During the event, Dennis Barnes (center) was presented with the 16th Annual Julian Abele Cook Jr.—Bernard A. Friedman FBA Civility Award which recognizes a civil practitioner who is an outstanding example of professional excellence and civility. After a long career in complex commercial and business litigation at Barris, Sott, Denn, & Driker PLLC and Butzel Long PC, Barnes now has his own firm focusing on alternative dispute resolution and mediation. Barnes has served as president of the State Bar of Michigan, president of the FBA, and in an variety of other bar and community service positions. Among those happy to congratulate Barnes at the dinner were (left to right) U.S. District Court Chief Judge Sean Cox, Eastern District of Michigan; along with U.S. District Court Judges Laurie J. Michelson, Victoria A. Roberts, Shalina D. Kumar, and Gershwin A. Drain; FBA Outgoing President Jennifer Newby, assistant U.S. attorney; FBA Incoming President George Donnini, Butzel Long; and U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Anthony Patti.
