Author Talk set for August 30

Local Author Todd Harburn will discuss his book “A Life Cut Short at the Little Big Horn,” of Army Surgeon George E. Lord, a figure in the American military’s 19th Century's medical elite. This is a familiar chapter of history, and a reminder of the humanity lost.

The event is set 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug, 30, at the Dalton?Branch of the Muskegon Area District Library.

‘The Lessons I Leave You: Paintings by Ayana Ross’

The Muskegon Museum of Art will  host this exhibit through September 10.

Ayana Ross draws from family, current events, history, art, experiences growing up in the American South, and Biblical stories viewed through a contemporary lens.

Touching on universal themes, her paintings offer an opening for viewers to find themselves and their own experiences.

A recurring theme is that of parent and child, of memories of the past and wishes and advice for the future.

Ross is based in McDonough, GA, and maintains a studio in Atlanta.


‘Aretha A Tribute’ slated for September 29

Broadway diva Capathia Jenkins will sing Aretha Franklin hits, accompanied by Darryl Williams on vocals,  including “Respect” and “Think” to “A Natural Woman,” “Chain of Fools,” “Amazing Grace” and many more.

The WMS concert is set 7:30 p.m., Friday, September 29, at the Frauenthal Center.
