ABA Business Law Section to host fall meeting in Chicago, stressing AI, other issues

Business law professionals from around the world will focus on a variety of hot topics, including multiple law issues emerging from the growth of artificial intelligence, during a three-day early fall conference of the American Bar Association Business Law Section, Sept. 7-9, in Chicago. The meeting will be in-person while some programs will be offered virtually.

More than 200 speakers and over 50 continuing legal education programs will be offered, with about a fifth of the CLE programs available virtually. One highlight of the meeting with be a fireside chat on leadership from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday with Laura Warren, senior vice president & general counsel of the Chicago Fire FC, the city’s professional soccer team. The session will be in the Erie meeting room on level 2.

The conference will feature two Showcase programs on timely issues facing business lawyers:

In addition, with artificial intelligence punctuating the legal landscape, including special challenges for business and transactional lawyers, the conference is offering several programs in AI. They include:

• “Artificial Intelligence and Implicit Bias: Addressing Discrimination in a Rapidly Changing Landscape”

Friday:

• “Big Data, Big Problems: The Legal Challenges of AI-Driven Data”

Saturday:

• “Challenges and Opportunities of Generative AI in Financial Services”

Timely programs on issues in sports and diversity and inclusion also will be offered. “Name, Image, Likeness in Amateur Athletics: Student/Athletes’ Compensation and the Intersection of Athletics and Tax Exemption — Are NIL “Collective” Entities?” will be from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Michigan room, level 2. “Increasing Diversity & Inclusion in the Partnership Ranks: Women in Business Law,” will be Saturday from10-11 a.m. in Superior room, level 2.
