Oakland County Water Resources Office receives 2023 Utility of the Future Award

The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s office (WRC) received the Water Environment Federation’s 2023 Utility of the Future award. The Utility of the Future Today program celebrates water utilities for their future-focused and transformative programs. This marks the third time in four years the organization has received this award, emphasizing its dedication to innovative water management and commitment to serving Oakland County.

“We are deeply honored to be recognized by the Water Environment Federation for the third time,” said Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash. “Every year our office continues its growth, regional collaboration and community outreach. We are committed to environmental initiatives and a sustainable future.”

This year, the WRC was acknowledged for its endeavors in the Watershed Stewardship category, highlighting its RainSmart Rebates program and the George W. Khun Retention Treatment Basin facility landscape project. Both demonstrate forward-thinking approaches to climate resilience and green stormwater infrastructure.

The award was accepted on behalf of the organization by Environmental and Public Services Manager Brian Coburn at the Water Environment Federation’s Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) in Chicago on Tuesday, October 3.

The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office is dedicated to protecting public health and safety, preserving natural resources and a healthy environment, maintaining reliable, high-quality service, ensuring the value of investment and contributing to economic prosperity.
