Agents from the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) recently visited CARE House of Oakland but instead of
asking questions, they offered appreciation.
Meeting with leaders and staff, the agents took time on February 12th to honor the “team effort” of CARE House staff and law enforcement in the hours and days after the tragic shooting at Oxford High School on November 30, 2021.
“Everything you do is so critical to the community,” FBI Assistant Special Agent In Charge Rueben Coleman told the staff. “The level of professionalism and expertise…is second to none. Even in the worst of situations, the partnerships are so critical.”
Coleman presented CARE House with a letter from FBI Director Christopher Wray, which thanks the organization for the “kindness and generosity” of its staff entering into “immediate” partnership with law enforcement to conduct 27 forensic interviews with students who were victims of trauma by surviving the high school shooting. Wray wrote that CARE House staff “provide critical services to victims and families affected by this tragedy” with “professionalism and expediency.”
“My Detroit Division colleagues and I are deeply appreciative of the kindness and generosity shown by CARE House of Oakland County in the face of such tragic losses in your community,” Wray wrote.
In addition to the interviews, CARE House staff, including therapists and advocates, provided immediate and continuing mental health services to the school community in the days and weeks following the shooting.
