MSU 1L elected as member-at-large for National Black Law Students Association

Michigan State University Law School student Jasmine Felder was elected member-at-large of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA). Felder was elected during the NBLSA?Convention at the Omni Hotel in Houston, Tex., March 7 through March 10. Her goal as member-at-large is to help NBLSA serve law students in the Midwest region.

Felder’s path to law began during her undergraduate years at the University of Central Florida, where she pursued Hospitality Management. From there, she received her Juris Masters in Legal Risk Management with a 4.0 GPA from Florida State University College of Law. As a first-generation law student, she navigated unfamiliar territory, driven by her passion for justice and advocacy. Her decision to choose Michigan State University College of Law was influenced by the support and guidance she received throughout the law school application process.

“Michigan State University College of Law did so much for me,” Felder reflects, “answering a lot of questions throughout the application process and beyond.”

Felder’s aspirations extend beyond personal success; She aims to make a tangible impact as a federal prosecutor in her home state of Florida. Her dedication to public service is evident in her active involvement within and outside the law school community. At MSU Law, Felder wears many hats — she serves as a student assistant for the Office of Law Admissions, a Dean’s Public Service Social Justice, and a Kaplan Bar Prep Rep. Moreover, she is a valued member of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at MSU Law, where she contributes to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for minority students.

This summer, Felder’s commitment to public service takes her to the State Attorney’s Office for Hillsborough County, Florida, where she will gain invaluable experience. Beyond her summer placement, she is also set to embark on a journey in the Housing Justice Clinic next year, further honing her skills as a future legal advocate.

Felder’s guiding principle, “Be the change you wish to see in the world. Actions speak louder than words,” encapsulates her approach to her personal and professional endeavors. Through her unwavering dedication, she exemplifies the values of leadership, service, and excellence.
