Elizabeth Lake Pump Station rehabilitation project underway

The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s office began construction on the three-phase Elizabeth Lake Pump Station rehabilitation project located at 10 Hillcliff Drive in Waterford Township. The work, which will continue through 2026, aims to strengthen the local sewer system with equipment replacements inside the pump station, some equipment being original from 1968.

“This project is a critical investment in the long-term reliability of the Clinton-Oakland Sewage Disposal System,” said Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash. “By making necessary improvements, we are committed to protecting the health and well-being of residents and preventing basement backups. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents and businesses during the construction process, and these enhancements will benefit this community for decades to come.”

This $4 million project is already funded through existing reserves, so there will be no impact on customer rates. It's part of our long-term plan to keep the system reliable without increasing costs.

Construction involves the Michigan Department of Transportation right of way at the corner of M-59 and Elizabeth Lake Road. During construction, a portion of John Street within Robbins Mobile Village will be closed, as well as the right turn lane of westbound Elizabeth Lake Road.

The north and east crosswalks at the M-59 and Elizabeth Lake Road intersection, and the sidewalks associated with the pump station, will also be closed. Pedestrian detours have been posted.

“Waterford Township appreciates our partnership with Jim Nash and the Oakland County Water Resource Commission and looks forward to the improvements being made to equipment inside the pump station at Elizabeth Lake Rd. and M-59,” said Waterford Township Supervisor Anthony Bartolotta.

Residents and businesses were notified of the project before it began with door hangers. For additional information, contact the Water Resources Commissioner’s office at 248-858-1105.
