Luke Lawrence continues to
impress in hurdles competition
Lawrence, who qualified through early qualifying in the 110-meter hurdles, won the event as well as the 300-meter hurdles to lead the Climax-Scotts boys track team at the Centreville Invitational May 3.
Athletes previously qualified for the state finals at the regionals with a top two finish or by meeting a qualifying standard, however for the first time this year, athletes could qualify through early qualifying.
To qualify through early qualifying, athletes have to reach a much higher standard based on the 6th place time, distance or height at the state finals last year.
C-S junior Gabe Walliczeck has also qualified for the state finals in both the discus and shot put through early qualifying.
Lawrence won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.91, and then set a personal record time of 41.23 to win the 300-meter hurdles at Centreville.
Lawrence joined Elijah Bowron, Chase VanMiddlesworth, and Maximus Wurtzel in a first place finishing effort in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:34.29.
The boys also had four second place finishes.
The boys track team won three events on the way to a fourth place finish and the Lady Panthers enjoyed three top three finishes for an eighth place finish in the 10-team event.
Centreville won the mens event with 1076. C-S totaled 765 points in fourth place out of 10 teams that scored.
Gobles won the womans event with 1061. C-S finished with 378 points in eighth place.
For the C-S girls, the 4x200-meter relay team consisting of Paige Amos, Sophie Braithwaite, Addy Reeves, and Annabelle Edwards finished second with a time of 1:54.92 and Addy Reeves finished second in the long jump with a jump of 14’05.50”.
