1. In the future there should be much greater government control over deep-water drilling.
2. There should be redundant systems immediately available so that oil wells in difficulty can be capped or siphoned forthwith if the blowout preventer fails.
3. Relief wells should be drilled simultaneously with the main well so that oil leaks can be stopped forthwith.
4. There must be a standby fleet of ships with skimmers, centrifugal pump and booms ready to handle the leaking oil once the oil leaks have been discovered.
5. Alternative sources of energy: Wind power, solar and atomic energy should be undertaken immediately with government assistance to replace oil with tax benefits granted by Congress to hasten the development of these resources.
6. Economic development grants and assistance should be given to those individuals, companies and corporations who elect to heat and light their homes and run their businesses with solar energy, wind power, and atomic energy.
7. County supervisors should arrange for those utility companies, solar energy, wind power and installation companies that wish to participate with sales demonstrations to teach the public on the purchase and installation of wind power and solar energy facilities for homes, factories, offices, businesses, and other buildings; and the benefits from the sale of excess energy to the utility companies.
8. The respective county supervisors’ auditoriums should be made available to the public to serve as classrooms for the utility companies.
A real effort should be made by the respective government agencies to acquaint the people of Michigan with the economic benefits from the use of wind power and solar energy and atomic energy, and how to connect up with the companies providing these sources of energy.
