Board of Commissioners records final cablecast

The August 19th meeting of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners marked the fourth and final taping of commission meetings which have been cablecast county-wide through a partnership of the following local communities’ cable commissions: the Southwest Oakland Cable Commission, the Greater West Bloomfield Cable Communications Commission, the Birmingham Area Cable Board, and the Orion Community Cable Communications Commission. Each cable commission provided coverage and service for one of the four taped meetings and distributed the recordings to local cable access channels throughout the county.

These communities have traditionally cablecast city council and township board meetings,” said David Albery, executive director of the Greater West Bloomfield Commission.  “They are happy to donate the production and distribution costs for County Commission meetings.”

At the August 19th Board Meeting, Oakland County Commissioners presented a series of proclamations honoring the “Little Lemonade Ladies,” recognizing the 19th Anniversary of  Women’s Suffrage while declaring National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in Oakland County. The Southeastern Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) made a presentation to the Board on the work of the organization on behalf of regional matters.

“ I believe that the countywide cablecast initiative was a good venture and has provided valuable service to Oakland County residents by giving the public an opportunity see Oakland County government  through a more intimate and transparent lens,” stated Oakland County Chairman Bill Bullard Jr.

He continued to say, “I appreciate the cooperation of the consortium of cable commissions and stations that have provided recordings of the Board meetings. I am pleased with the outcome of the collaboration between the consortiums of area cable commissions who provided their services to the county free of charge which made this initiative a reality. I, along with the Board of Commissioners, hope to expand this program.”

Residents will be able to view the meeting on their local public access or governmental access channel.  They should check their local channel for scheduling information.  The meeting will also be available as a video archive at the SWOCC web site (swoccstudios.pegcentral.com) and the GWBCCC web site (civiccentertv.com).
