Royal Oak Township leader indicted for bribe

ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP (AP) -- The U.S. Justice Department says a federal grand jury has indicted the elected leader of Royal Oak Township on accusations he took a $10,000 bribe from a company bidding on a demolition contract in the impoverished Detroit suburb. Detroit U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said Tuesday that the grand jury indicted township Supervisor William Morgan on charges of bribery and conspiracy to defraud the Department of Housing and Urban Development. McQuade says Morgan took money from Sureguard/PBM, which was bidding on a contract to tear down an abandoned theater. The township board gave the contract to a lower bidder.
