Court ordered to look at Kilpatrick book dispute

DETROIT (AP) -- The Michigan Supreme Court is ordering a lower court to take another look at a dispute over the sales of a book written by former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Kilpatrick objects to the creation of an escrow account to hold money from book sales. He owes Detroit more than $800,000 from a criminal case that forced him out of office in 2008. Kilpatrick's lawyer says there's an important issue of free-speech rights. In August, the state appeals court said Kilpatrick's appeal lacked merit. But the Supreme Court on Monday told the appeals court to give it new consideration. The escrow order was made in August by Wayne County Judge David Groner. Published: Tue, Mar 6, 2012
