Judge says he has no role in Detroit union clash

DETROIT (AP) -- A federal judge says he won't get involved in a dispute between Detroit city unions and Gov. Rick Snyder. U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow turned down a request for a restraining order Wednesday. The unions wanted the judge to order Detroit and the state to honor contract concessions that were approved by workers in March. The city has said those deals are dead because the Snyder administration wants even more changes. The dispute is part of a broader struggle to fix Detroit's finances. Unions say that state officials told Detroit not to submit the revised contracts to city council for approval. The judge says it's beyond his authority to "regulate ... political negotiations."
