Wayne State University Law School congratulates eight students recently elected to the Journal of Law in Society 2012-13 board.
Students elected include: Editor-in-Chief Victoria Suber, Managing Editor Sorin Borlodan, Reviewing Editor Avery Rose, Symposium Director Kanika Suri, Public Relations Director and Business Editor Maggie Seeger, Senior Note Editor Amanda Skalski, and article editors Ashleigh Weinbrecht and Ryan Paree.
In 2011 the Journal of Law in Society partnered with the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights to start a co-branding initiative, according to current Public Relations Director Alyssa Yeip. In 2012 the journal advanced this initiative by revising its mission statement and cover design, and implementing new article selection and symposia topic selection protocol that advances the aims of both the journal and the Keith Center.
Acting as the scholarly voice of the Keith Center, the Journal of Law and Society provides discourse on the intersection of law and society. Each year the journal identifies a range of issues affecting Detroit and other parts of the world, and then publishes articles that address those issues within their social context.
The Journal of Law and Society is managed and edited by Wayne Law students with support from faculty advisor Peter Hammer, professor of law and director of the Keith Center. Issues are published twice annually. Additionally, the journal hosts an academic symposium every spring.
“I would like to congratulate the new board members of the Journal of Law in Society,” said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. “The Journal of Law in Society continues to grow under the excellent leadership of our students. Their work is impressive and I am know the new board members will continue in this tradition. I look forward to working with them.”
According to Suber, the board has already begun making plans for their tenure.
“I am looking forward to working with such a talented an enthusiastic group of my peers,” said Suber. “Together, in the tradition of the Journal of Law in Society, we will bring attention to issues surrounding social justice. Sorin Borlodan is focused on bringing up a new group of strong associate editors and improving the image of the journal. Maggie Seeger, who is the first to take on the new joint position of public relations director and business editor, will find new ways to promote the journal. Avery Rose will ensure the journal outlines, explores and ultimately brings understanding to important social issues in Detroit. Kanika Suri will pursue the ideals of both the Keith Center and the journal, and has many great ideas for next year’s symposium.”
