Absentee primary ballots printed and available

Ahead of schedule, Oakland County Clerk Bill Bullard announced absentee ballots are printed and being distributed to local election officials for the upcoming August 7, 2012 Primary Election. In 2010, the federal and state governments adopted laws requiring absentee ballots to be available at least 45 days prior to an election. These laws followed widespread reports that local military and overseas personnel were not getting a chance to vote in many elections. These military personnel now also have the ability to print and mail in a ballot remotely. Bullard was pleased his office was ahead of schedule stating: "Our staff have been working tirelessly for long hours to make sure we give voters a chance to make their voices heard. There is no excuse for not giving our military heroes the chance to exercise their vote, especially as they are sacrificing so much to protect us."
