County Health Division encourages HIV testing

Today, June 27, is National HIV Testing Day and Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) is encouraging everyone to "Take the Test, Take Control." OCHD offers free HIV testing with same day results along with confidential counseling and referral services. Testing is available on a first come, first served basis at the OCHD offices in Pontiac and Southfield every Monday, noon to 8 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. "There are over a million people living in the United States with HIV and almost one out of every five do not know they are infected. Getting tested and getting tested regularly is key to getting diagnosed early when treatment can help a person stay healthy and extend their life," stated Dr. Pamela Hackert, OCHD chief of medical services.
