ANN ARBOR (AP) -- The University of Michigan says it has received a record number of applications from prospective freshmen. The school announced Monday it got 42,535 applications for the 2012-13 academic year. That's an increase of 7.5 percent over the previous year's 39,570. Michigan says it marks the sixth consecutive year it collected a record number of applications. As of the first week of June, 15,523 of the applicants were offered admission to the Ann Arbor campus, and 6,449 had paid the enrollment deposit. About 6,000 first-year students are expected to enroll by fall term 2012. Final enrollment figures will be available in October. Published: Wed, Jul 18, 2012
