Sobriety Court conducts graduation

Oakland County 52-3 District Court Judges Julie Nicholson (center) and Nancy Carniak (third from right) hosted the Fall Sobriety Court graduation on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the City of Auburn Hills Community Center.

Also participating in the graduation were (left to right) DeAnne Bukari, Matthew Fedor, Cassie Flore, Paul Ferrell, Jeff Cojocar, Mike, and Renée S. Gillért.

Sobriety Court is a special, non-adversarial court docket designed to offer immediate treatment to a non-violent offender for substance abuse, along with drug testing and judicial supervision.

The goal is to reduce repeat offenders and promote a healthy lifestyle.  Sobriety Court promotes abstinence by providing a continuum of rehabilitative services and intense court supervision.

The program is designed to assist an offender in making better choices about drugs and alcohol and improving social behavior.

The court started this program in April of 2006.  Since its inception, 61 people have successfully completed the program.
