Genisys wins 2nd place for Dora Maxwell Award

Genisys Credit Union recently won second place for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award. The award recognizes a credit union or chapter/multiple credit union group for its social responsibility work and charitable projects that support its community. "Genisys is honored and humbled to receive the Dora Maxwell Award," said Genisys CEO Jackie Buchanan. "We maintain the credit union values by giving back to the community and improving the lives of others throughout the year." In 2011, Genisys sponsored 310 community service projects including the 5k Hunger Walk that took place on May 5, 2012. Working alongside Lighthouse of Oakland County, the goal of this walk was to raise money for the food pantry, which provides assistance to children who may not be receiving enough food during the summer months. It also raises awareness of the hunger issues in Oakland County. "Genisys provided critical support through participation in our fight against hunger and helping us establish collaborative relationships in neighborhood beautification, financial education and client support," said Priscilla Perkins, chief development officer of Lighthouse of Oakland County. The Hunger Walk raised $25,000, which supported about 800 families in feeding their children during the 2012 summer months. More than 350 walkers participated including 30 were Genisys volunteers. Other projects that Genisys has sponsored with Lighthouse of Oakland County include Stuff a Bus, which gives school supplies to children in need, and Adopt a Family, a program that ensures more than 1,500 needy families celebrate the holiday season. "Genisys is on target to exceed our involvement and sponsorship of all 310 events in 2012," says Linda Zabik, public relations manager. Genisys' goal in sponsoring these community involvement projects is to reach out and build relationships with individuals, businesses and groups to make them aware and involved in the surrounding area.
