Bashara lawyer ordered to pay $8,000 in civil contempt of court case

DETROIT (AP) -- The ex-lawyer for a Detroit-area man whose wife was strangled has been ordered to pay $8,000 in a contempt case. David Griem is the former attorney for Robert Bashara, who has been called a person of interest in his wife's killing. A Detroit judge on Monday ordered Griem to pay $8,000 in attorney and court fees after being found in civil contempt of court last month. Griem was accused of improperly sharing evidence with Bashara's family and issuing unauthorized subpoenas. He didn't comment after Monday's hearing. Bashara is a businessman from Grosse Pointe Park. He admitted to trying to hire someone to kill the man charged in the slaying of his wife. Jane Bashara's body was found Jan. 25 in her Mercedes-Benz SUV in a Detroit alley.
