Christmas travel season in Michigan to be busier

DEARBORN (AP) -- The Christmas travel season in Michigan is expected to be slightly busier than last year. AAA Michigan announced recently that it forecasts that 2.9 million Michigan residents will travel 50 miles or more from home during the upcoming Christmas holiday period. About 91 percent if those travelers are expected to go by car, truck or van. Seven percent of those Michigan travelers are expected to go by air, while the rest will travel by bus or train. Nationwide, AAA says 84.4 million people will drive at least 50 miles between Dec. 22 and Jan. 1. That's 90.5 percent of holiday travelers, up from 89.3 percent six years ago.
