The Oakland Mediation Center (OMC) conducted a graduation ceremony for its eighth class of civil mediators from Thomas M. Cooley Law School on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at OMC’s office in Bloomfield Hills.
Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Edward Sosnick (seated, center) and Cooley Auburn Hills Associate Dean John Nussbaumer (standing, far right) spoke at the event.
The instructors for this program were OMC’s Camelia Ureche (seated, far right) and Bonnie Hanes (not pictured).
The graduates included (seated, left to right) Lina Putrus, Nancy Urban, and Sarah Anderson, along with (standing, left to right) Lakisha Wade, LaToya McBean, FaCheryl Dixon, Elisha Alexander, Richard Shermanski Jr., Jayma Leath, Amy Brundett, Samantha Kahn, Jonathan May, Gregory Klich, and Abeir Faraj.
The class of 14 students participated in this program as a result of a partnership between OMC and Cooley.
The program was developed to increase the number of mediators available to resolve conflicts in Oakland County and beyond. Students were given the opportunity to learn and to practice mediation skills.
The program creates a win-win for OMC and Cooley by providing experiential training and practical experience to Cooley students while developing highly-trained mediators.
