The Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) Criminal Law Committee presented “Anatomy of the Appellate Process Including the New MCR 7.100” as a part of its Anatomy of a Criminal Case – Year XIV brown bag lunch lecture series on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Oakland County Bar Center in Bloomfield Hills.
Among those taking part were (left to right) Timothy Flynn of Karlstrom Cooney LLP, vice chair of the Criminal Law Committee; LaNita R. Haith of Law Office of LaNita R. Haith; and Michael J. McCarthy of Michael J. McCarthy PC.
“This is about appellate practice in the state courts of Michigan so we’ll talk about appeals to the Michigan Court of Appeals, to the (Michigan) Supreme Court, and also some appeals that are handled at the circuit court level,” McCarthy said.
“An interesting one,” Haith added, is “an interlocutory appeal or application for leave to appeal from the district court to the circuit court which is unusual.”
