Center provides mediator training opportunities
People face conflict every single day of their life. Oakland Mediation Center (OMC) offers 40-Hour Domestic and Civil Mediator Trainings to any individual who wishes to learn skills to help others workout their disputes. Mediation training can enhance one's current skill set and marketability, allow participants to be eligible for the court roster list of approved mediators and improve communication and negotiating skills personally and professionally.
The 40-Hour Civil Mediation Training provides participants with conflict management, communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills. It is designed to teach participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of general civil disputes from the initial consultation to writing the mediation agreement. The next training will be offered June 6, 13, 20, 27, and July 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The cost of the training is $1,095.
The 40-Hour Domestic Relations Mediator Training teaches participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of divorce and custody disputes from the initial consultation to writing the mediation agreement. This training will be held April 26 and May 3, 10, 16, 23, 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The cost of this training is $1,390 and includes the SCAO required 8-hour Domestic Violence Screening Training.
OMC's 40-Hour Domestic and Civil Mediator Trainings are approved by the Michigan State Court Administrative Office and are designed to be highly interactive and skill based. These trainings are the first step for any individual who wishes to mediate privately or qualify for the circuit court roster approved list of mediators. The trainings take place at the Oakland Mediation Center in Bloomfield Hills and include continental breakfast, lunch, snacks and course materials. OMC also provides individuals with the opportunity to complete the SCAO court roster requirements of 40 hours of experience, two observations, and one supervised mediation.
The trainings will be delivered by Kenzi Bisbing, OMC's education manager who has conducted more than 120 professional mediation and conflict resolution trainings. She is a skilled mediator and has facilitated hundreds of mediations across Arizona, Texas, Ohio and Michigan involving family, divorce, guardianship, truancy and community related issues.
"OMC's mission is to help the community peacefully resolve conflict through mediation and education," said Bonnie Hanes, OMC executive director. "These trainings teach powerful skills and techniques to resolve conflict and prevent escalation. By resolving conflicts, we are creating a more peaceful community."
For additional information about the trainings, contact the Oakland Mediation Center training department at (248) 338-4280, ext. 216.
