Ex-mayor sues Ferndale Historical Society over writing history book

FERNDALE (AP) -- The ex-mayor of Ferndale wants a nonprofit historical society dissolved amid a dispute over who should write a book on the community's history. The Detroit News reports Robert McGee, who led the city from 1992-94, filed a breach of contract lawsuit in Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac seeking more than $25,000 in damages. McGee, who now lives in Ann Arbor, says the Ferndale Historical Society and its board obstructed his efforts and engaged in "hijacking the book project to profit from book sales." Lawyer Daryl J. Paquette, who represents the 150-member group, says the lawsuit is "outrageous and has zero merit." Paquette says a local history book was discussed within the society for years but there's no current plan to undertake such a project. Published: Mon, Apr 14, 2014
