Firm helps announce 2014 Entrepreneurship Challenge winners
Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss, in partnership with the Michigan Corps, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and other local businesses and philanthropic partners, announced the winners of the 2014 Michigan Social Entrepreneurship Challenge during a Social Entrepreneurship Showcase held at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit on Friday, June 20.
As part of Jaffe's partnership, Jaffe CEO Bill Sider presented Owen & Abby, a producer of handcrafted furniture and home furnishings, The Jaffe Right Start Prize. This award features a complete legal review of the company by Jaffe's attorneys, in addition to a provision of legal services tailored to the winner's specific business needs valued at $5,000. Awarded the Jaffe Right Start Prize for its innovative business model, Owen & Abby create their products by using reclaimed materials from abandoned homes to provide employment for homeless or at-risk women seeking stabilization and self-sufficiency.
"We are eager to begin working with Owen & Abby," said Jaffe CEO Bill Sider. "This competition is a great catalyst to advance our communities with innovative companies, and we are honored to be a partner in supporting this effort."
