Federal court names new magistrates

U.S. District Court Chief Judge Gerald E. Rosen, Eastern District of Michigan, recently announced that the court has selected Anthony P. Patti and Elizabeth A. Stafford for appointment as United States magistrate judges for the Eastern District of Michigan. Patti is a resident of Ann Arbor. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his law degree from the University of Notre Dame. He is currently a partner at the law firm of Hooper, Hathaway, Price, Beuche, & Wallace PC in Ann Arbor. Stafford is a resident of Grosse Pointe Farms. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and her law degree from Wayne State University Law School. She is currently an assistant United States attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan in Detroit. Patti and Stafford were selected by the court from a list of ten persons recommended by a court-appointed Merit Selection Panel from among 93 applicants. The panel members included attorneys Kathleen L. Bogas, David F. DuMouchel, Pamela R. Harwood, Michael K. Lee (vice-chair), Dani el L. Lemisch, Todd R. Mendel, Clarence L. Pozza Jr. (chair), Antoinette R. Raheem, John R. Runyan Jr., and Leroy Soles, as well as non-attorneys Mariam Noland, Osama Siblani, and Dr. Lorna Thomas. Patti and Stafford's names will be forwarded to the Administrative Office of the United States Courts in Washington, D.C. which will initiate the required background investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service. Upon the successful completion of those investigations, they will be sworn in as magistrate judges, and it is anticipated they will sit in Detroit where they would fill the magistrate judge vacancy created by the elevations of District Judge Laurie J. Michelson and Bankruptcy Judge Mark A. Randon. Published: Tue, Sep 09, 2014
