Bashara encouraged by judge to consider plea deal

DETROIT (AP) - The judge overseeing the case of a Detroit-area man accused of arranging his wife's death is encouraging some type of deal before trial. Wayne County Judge Vonda Evans says she wants to see if there could be a "potential resolution." She spoke Monday during a hearing in the case of Robert Bashara. Considering the evidence, the judge asked Bashara what he'd tell his "best friend to do." The Grosse Pointe Park man is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jane Bashara, who was strangled in 2012. A handyman is in prison for second-degree murder after saying he killed her on Bashara's orders. Bashara is in prison for trying to have the handyman killed. County prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller says no deal has been offered to Bashara. Published: Wed, Sep 10, 2014
