Clerk/ROD warns residents about scam
Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown is warning residents about companies that charge fees for services that the county offers for free.
"If you get a solicitation from a company offering to help you access property records, please disregard it and call our office," Brown said. "My staff is here to assist Oakland County residents at absolutely no charge. There will always be unscrupulous companies offering to 'help' property owners. I want to make sure our residents understand that these often are scams and that property records are available at our office for $1 per page."
The Oakland County Register of Deeds Office retains property records for Oakland County. Access to these documents is available at the office or through two online resources: U.S. Land Records and the county's new Super Index.
The Oakland County Register of Deeds Office can be reached at 248-858-0597. The website is http://www.oakgov.com/clerkrod; click on the green "Search for Property Records" icon on the right side of the page. Residents can visit the office at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
