Wayne Law charity drive doubles goal, brings in 600 pounds of food
Local families in need will benefit this holiday season from 600 pounds of food donated through a Wayne State University Law School charity drive.
Wayne Law's Student Affairs office conducted the food drive in late November and early December for Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.
The goal had been set at 300 pounds, but students, faculty and staff brought in double that amount of non-perishable food items.
The drive was assisted by an added incentive from Barbri, which offered $25 off its bar examination study content to any first-year law student who brought in a food item Tuesday, Nov. 18.
Melody Andrews, Student Affairs secretary, headed up the food drive.
"I hadn't done a food drive on such a large scale," Andrews said. "I thought my expectation of 300 pounds was grand, but we doubled it. I smiled for two days."
Gleaners picked up the food Wednesday, Dec. 3.
