Wolverine Bar to host annual Barristers' Ball

The Wolverine Bar Foundation (WBF) and Wolverine Bar Association (WBA) will host the highly anticipated 54th Annual Barristers’ Ball Charity Event on Saturday, March 28, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel in Detroit. Each year this black tie event, open to the public, is celebrated by more than 1,500 guests including government officials, judges, legislators, executives, attorneys, business professionals, socialites, and civic leaders.

The Barristers’ Ball will be preceded by the President’s Reception (invitation only), beginning at 7 p.m. where honorees will be acknowledged. Awardees of  the WBF Scholarship for 2015 are Cari Carson, Jasmine A. Moore and Janiesha Freelove-Sewell. Congressman John Conyers Jr. will receive The Living Legacy Award. AMEN 4 Youth (Academia Mentoring & Education Network) is the recipient of the Community Impact Award.

“We are excited for this year’s ball where we will celebrate and pay tribute to the uniquely beautiful culture and history of Detroit,” says WBA President Chantez Pattman Knowles. “The WBA and WBF have been longstanding organizations in Detroit that have supported and served the legal profession and the black community. Thanks to our Barristers’ Ball sponsors and attendees, the Wolverine Bar Foundation has continued its tradition of providing scholarships to law students and outreach programs for the community.”

This evening of elegance will commemorate more than 90 years of commitment to diversity and excellence in the legal profession in Metro Detroit. This year’s theme is “Vintage Detroit.” “Plum Street” will feature uniquely Detroit-based small businesses and boutiques for purchase.  Guests will be entertained by celebrity spin master and Detroit’s own Dwele, DJ Waxtax-N Dre and DJ Vernon English. To purchase tickets ($100 each), visit www.54thBarristersBall.Eventbrite.com.

The WBA is one of Michigan’s oldest legal organizations, organized to foster the talents of an increasing number of African-Americans practicing in Michigan.  The WBF is the philanthropic arm of the Association.  The Barristers’ Ball is their largest fundraiser.  Proceeds provide scholarships to area law students,  allow attorney participation in pro bono services and sustains community outreach programs on legal issues. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. To learn more about the WBA and WBF, log on to www.WolverineBar.org.
