Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Nanci Grant was presented with the 2015 WONder Woman Award at the Women Officials Network Award Ceremony held April 30 at the San Marino Club in Troy.

The WONder Woman award recognizes women who have improved the quality of life in Southeast Michigan through their civic, philanthropic, and professional accomplishments.  In recognition of the award, Grant also received a Special Tribute from Governor Rick Snyder and the Ninety-Eighth Congress.

Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Lisa Langton nominated Grant for this award for her commitment to the legal profession and her community.  “Judge Grant exemplifies high ideals both inside the courtroom and throughout the community where she gives freely of her time and expertise,” stated Langton.

Grant joined the Circuit Court bench in 1996 and is currently in her third term as chief judge.  She is also the co-creator and presiding judge of Michigan’s only Combat Veterans Treatment Court that serves men and women who risked their lives for their country and whose combat experience directly led to their involvement with the criminal justice system.

Grant has served in all capacities, including president and chairperson, with the Michigan Judges Association and the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission.  Outside of the court, Grant serves on the Oakland County Coordinating Council Against Domestic Violence, is active with the Women’s Law Caucus of Wayne State University, and volunteers her time with the Oakland County Youth in Government program.

“I am thrilled and honored to be chosen for this award and respect the work and dedication of this organization in promoting the advancement of women in public office while providing networking opportunities and training for women,” stated Grant.

The Women’s Official Network’s mission is to celebrate women who have contributed in meaningful ways and have forged paths of leadership and to inspire girls and women to achieve their full potential.
