Capoeira class at 5th Annual Kids Kicking Cancer Sports-A-Thon.
Sports-A-Thon raises $10,000 for sick children to help manage disease and treatments
Southfield-based Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss PC was the premier sponsor for the 5th Annual Kids Kicking Cancer Sports-A-Thon and Family Fun Day last month, helping to raise more than $10,000 for the nationally recognized nonprofit organization. Jaffe attorney Deborah Rubin coordinated the event in partnership with Kids Kicking Cancer founder, Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg. Jaffe CEO Bill Sider made the announcement.
More than 150 local attendees raised funds through family and friend donations to participate in the sports-a-thon held at the Franklin Athletic Club. A vast range of activities were included, such as basketball, tennis and martial arts for kids, and Zumba, kickboxing and Capoeira for adults. In addition to these activities, the event featured a family fun day with music from Club Elite, face painting, and a martial arts demonstration from the inspirational students of Kids Kicking Cancer.
“This event has the remarkable capability of bringing people together for a very important cause,” said Rubin. “Our local community has shown an immense amount of support and generosity towards the Kids Kicking Cancer initiative and their contributions will make a major impact on the lives of those children and families who are battling severe illness.”
Kids Kicking Cancer was founded in metro Detroit and helps children manage the stress and pain of their disease and treatments through mind-body techniques found in martial arts, which can heal them physically, spiritually and emotionally. Through personalized coaching instructed by black belt martial artists, these children achieve power, peace and purpose.
