On Wednesday, September 17, University of Mississippi School of Law Professor Ronald J. Rychlak spoke at WMU-Cooley Law School’s Constitution Day event. During Rychlak’s presentation, he gave an overview of the Bill of Rights and how it was was interpreted during the Civil Rights era.
“Of Course, the Bill of Rights is actually now part of the Constitution, and we know at least some of its provisions: The right to free speech, to practice your religion, to keep and bear arms, and not to incriminate yourself,” said Rychlak. “The Bill of Rights is the single most powerful and successful assertion of individual rights and liberty ever written – one of history’s most important and influential documents, and it has become the world’s road map for human rights and freedom from oppression.”
Rychlak has been a faculty member at the University of Mississippi School of Law since 1987 and is an advisor to the Holy See’s delegation at the United Nations. He is also author and co-author of numerous articles and nine books, including Disinformation: Former Spy Chief Reveals Secret Strategies for Undermining Freedom, Attacking Religion, and Promoting Terrorism, which he wrote with Ion Mihai Pacepa, the highest ranking Soviet bloc intelligence officer to defect to the West.
