On Saturday, Nov. 21, Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairman Michael J. Gingell will receive the 2015 Golden Ring of Hope Award at the 19th Annual Ring of Hope Dinner presented by the Homes for Autism organization. The dinner will be held at the Pine Knob Mansion in Clarkston.
Gingell will be one of two award recipients at the event that brings leaders from a wide spectrum of the community together to raise awareness about the issue of autism. Homes for Autism is an organization that provides and maintains houses for adults with autism and developmental disabilities. It creates solutions to meet the needs of those with autism and their families with the objectives of helping those with autism live their best life, obtain quality housing and achieve in society. These are key components of the organization’s mission.
Homes for Autism selected Gingell for the distinguished award due to his years of community service and involvement in organizations that support Autism.
Currently, there are six homes established in Wayne, Oakland, Livingston, and Washtenaw counties, which reflect the growing need as 1-in-88 individuals are diagnosed with autism according to statistics. Autism awareness is important and organizations, such as, Homes for Autism are crucial to this effort.
