DETROIT (AP) — Hundreds of people have lined up outside a Detroit courthouse to take advantage of a program that waives fees on old, unpaid traffic tickets.
The crowds were for Tuesday’s final day of the event at 36th District Court.
Chief Judge Nancy Blount said in a release that the program is a “one-time opportunity” for motorists “to restore their driving privileges and save hundreds of dollars on each ticket.”
Rashad Morgan tells the Detroit Free Press that he’ll save up to $300 on fees after taking care of tickets for driving without proof of insurance and driving on a suspended license.
Morgan says he needs his driver’s license and has not been driving legally since about 2009. He adds that the program gives people a chance “to get right.”
