In the coming weeks Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown will be making in person voter registration available for students and residents on site at local schools and community centers.
“It is so important to exercise your right to vote. Instead of making it easier, the Governor and Legislature have been making it more difficult to vote. I want to do all I can to help our citizens exercise their right. By registering to vote in person with your clerk, you have the ability to vote by absentee the first time you vote. That means an 18 year old college student can attend class and vote in their dorm room instead of having to miss class and find a ride home to vote.”
The voter registration drives are scheduled for:
• Monday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Student Center at Oakland Community College’s Highland Lakes campus, 7350 Cooley Lake Road, Waterford.
• Friday, Jan. 29, from 1 p,m. to 3 p.m., at the Muslim Unity Center, 1830 W Square Lake Road, Bloomfield Hills.
• Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Student Center at Oakland Community College’s Highland Lakes campus, 7350 Cooley Lake Road, Waterford.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend the events at Oakland Community College and the Muslim Unity Center (Clerk Roncelli will also be present at the Unity Center registration drive).
Michigan residents who will be 18 or older by the next Election Day can register to vote. Registrants are asked to please bring a valid driver’s license or other government-issued photo ID with them.
Voters must be registered by February 8 in order to vote in the statewide presidential primary being held on March 8.
