Free Seniors' Law Day set for May 10

The Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) will host a free legal seminar, Seniors’ Law Day, on Tuesday, May 10, from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Waterford Senior Center.

Seniors’ Law Day is designed to help educate senior members of the community on different areas of law and to assist attendees in finding answers to their legal questions.

“The Senior Law Day is in its 13th year. It’s really a day targeted just for our seniors where we bring in experts in areas important to our seniors as well as offer them opportunities to ask other questions during our ‘Ask a Lawyer’ session,” explains Mona Jabr, chairperson of the OCBA’s Providing Access to Legal Services (PALS) Committee. “It really speaks to the special partnership we have with the Waterford Senior Center and the Oakland County Bar Foundation, which sponsors the event and provides lunch.”

Attendees will begin their day with a seminar covering wills and trusts presented by attorney Robert Isgrigg Jr. They will then choose from four breakout sessions: “Prenuptial Agreements for Seniors” with attorney Laura Eisenberg; “Guardianships and Conservatorships” presented by attorney Barb Andruccioli; “Patient Advocates and Durable Powers of Attorney,” with attorney Patricia E. Kefalas Dudek; and “Financial Scams” with FTC investigator Adam Clemans.

Participants will also have an opportunity to talk one-on-one to an attorney and receive brief advice and counsel during the “Ask a Lawyer” session from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A free lunch will be served at noon.

This event is sponsored through the support of the Oakland County Bar Foundation, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit charitable organization serving the legal needs of Oakland County citizens.

The Waterford Senior Center is located at 3621 Pontiac Lake Rd. in Waterford. Those interested in attending should register with the OCBA by calling Merri Lee Jones at 248-334-3400.
