Snyder signs bills on trusts, tax abatements, 'Homes for the aged'
"Homes for the aged," will now have the ability to obtain liquor licenses under legislation signed last Thursday by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder. Under existing state law, "homes for the aged" are defined as supervised facilities that provide room, board, and supervised personal care to 21 or more individuals age 60 or over.
"This bill helps ensure that those serving Michigan's aging population are given more opportunities to offer products and services that help their residents feel more at home," Snyder said.
Senate Bill 885, sponsored by state Sen. Peter MacGregor, is now Public Act 328 of 2016.
Snyder also signed three additional bills:
House Bill 4580, sponsored by state Rep. Andy Schor, requires local units who approve personal property tax abatement agreements to have a written agreement with the company receiving the abatement. It would also allow the abatement to be withdrawn if the terms of the written agreement are violated by the company. It is now PA 329 of 2016.
SB 597 and HB 5504, sponsored by state Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker and state Rep. Klint Kesto, respectively, allow for the creation of trusts that are irrevocable and whose assets cannot be accessed by creditors, under certain circumstances. The measures are now PAs 330 and 331 of 2016.
