After being named regional champions, a Wayne State University Law School Moot Court team will advance to the national finals of the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition.
Two Wayne Law teams competed against 32 other teams at the regional competition in Boston Thursday, March 2 through Saturday, March 4. The team of second-year student Jonathan Demers of Detroit and third-year students Amy Huang of Farmington Hills, and Chris Rambus of Detroit finished as regional champions and will advance to the national finals. Demers also was honored as a Top 10 Oral Advocate.
Wayne Law's team of third-year students Matthew Paradiso of Royal Oak and Stephen Reaume of Grosse Pointe Farms were among the top eight teams in the region and named regional finalists.
Kevin Carlson, Wayne Law class of 2004, served as the teams' alumni coach.
"These students and their coach spent countless hours preparing for this competition," said Megan Canty, director of academic success and bar exam preparation. "I could not be more proud of what they have achieved."
There are six regional locations for this competition, and four teams from each region moved on to the national finals, March 6 through March 8, in Chicago.
